God’s New Graces Every Morning
Psalm 119:17–40 (NKJV)
ג GIMEL | ד DALETH | ה HEג GIMEL
17 Deal bountifully with Your servant,
That I may live and keep Your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.
19 I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.
20 My soul breaks with longing
For Your judgments at all times.
21 You rebuke the proud—the cursed,
Who stray from Your commandments.
22 Remove from me reproach and contempt,
For I have kept Your testimonies.
23 Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.
24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.
Reflection:
Being a servant of the Lord requires us to seek God’s Word for instruction. We who belong to the Lord are not to live for ourselves but for our Creator. Only His Word can show us what is right and wrong. How deeply we need His Word to survive in this fallen world! God has called us to reflect Him, not the world around us.
ד DALETH
25 My soul clings to the dust;
Revive me according to Your word.
26 I have declared my ways, and You answered me;
Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts;
So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.
28 My soul melts from heaviness;
Strengthen me according to Your word.
29 Remove from me the way of lying,
And grant me Your law graciously.
30 I have chosen the way of truth;
Your judgments I have laid before me.
31 I cling to Your testimonies;
O LORD, do not put me to shame!
32 I will run the course of Your commandments,
For You shall enlarge my heart.
Reflection:
Being a Christian is not merely a religion or philosophy to live by—it is a relationship with our Creator. To learn and grow, we must seek the Lord with all our hearts. Life’s challenges weigh heavily, yet God has given us His Word to direct our steps. Just as lack of food leads to weakness, neglecting God’s Word leaves us spiritually empty. His Word nourishes and guides us.
ה HE
33 Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes,
And I shall keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law;
Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
35 Make me walk in the path of Your commandments,
For I delight in it.
36 Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to covetousness.
37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.
38 Establish Your word to Your servant,
Who is devoted to fearing You.
39 Turn away my reproach which I dread,
For Your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.
Reflection:
How we need God’s Word! Yet we are often weak because we neglect meditation and application, or assume that weekly church attendance alone will sustain us. We must crave God’s Word like a child craves sweetness—not as a daily vitamin, but as oxygen for life itself.
When we seek God’s Word merely for survival, we miss its true value. Our Father is preparing us to serve Him, guided by His righteousness. I confess that I too have failed to place His Word first. We often try to “take care of ourselves,” forgetting that only our heavenly Father truly can—and He must come first.
Prayer:
Father, thank You that You know we are but dust. Thank You for walking patiently with us, even when we try to rule our own lives and fail miserably. We praise You for Your mercy and grace, without which we would be hopeless. Teach us to follow You with all our hearts, minds, and desires. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Biblical Counseling Ministry Update
We are blessed to see more people seeking biblical counsel—which differs from psychological or “Christian” counseling. True biblical counseling relies solely on God’s Word, not the methodologies of psychology. More and more are turning to Scripture to navigate their struggles, and we give thanks for this growing hunger for truth.
Life’s Unexpected “Crook in the Lot”
Life brings unexpected trials—there are no perfect couples, no perfect people, no one without problems. Every person faces struggles and unanticipated hardships—each has their own lot in life.
Recently, I (Neil) began reading The Crook in the Lot by Puritan writer Thomas Boston, which examines how God uses our challenges for His purposes. When overwhelmed by the “crook” in our lot, we must turn to the One who created us and holds the answers.
A recent personal example reminds us of this truth. We finally visited Robin’s parents, Mitch and Patt, after a long-delayed trip—joined by two of our grandchildren. It was a beautiful time together. Only days after our return, on October 20, Robin’s father called to tell us that her mother had gone home to be with the Lord.
Soon after, our entire family and many of her parents’ friends gathered to celebrate the life and impact of Patricia Ann Mitchell. Though unexpected, we trust that God allowed this in His perfect timing, for the good of all involved.
Church Partnerships and Ministry Growth
We are grateful for ongoing partnerships with Calvary Chapel Fountain, Springs Lighthouse, and Rocky Mountain Calvary (RMC). After prayerful consideration, we have merged with RMC, where many we minister to are already connected. What a joy to share fellowship across so many churches in the body of Christ!
Finances and Giving
Our ministry remains fully offered unto the Lord.
Those we counsel are never asked for payment—we trust God to meet our needs through His people.
We do, however, need additional monthly supporters to sustain this ministry. We rely on God’s grace and the generosity of others.
As Giving Tuesday approaches, we invite you to prayerfully consider supporting this ministry. Whether through a one-time gift or monthly support, your generosity helps us continue this work into the new year.
All praise to the Lord, for everything we have is by His grace.
[Tax-deductible donations and direct giving options are available on our website.]
Counsel Training
What began with one or two students has grown! Each module has brought more interest, and we are now completing this round with five dedicated students. Their commitment is inspiring. We plan to take a short break but hope to begin a new class in the coming year.
Please continue praying for God’s wisdom for us as we teach—and for all who are learning to counsel according to His Word.
